In my youth, there were certain choices that actually weren't choices at all...like, could I wear lipstick in junior high school? No. Could I shave my fuzzy little legs when I was 10? No. Could I paint on glittery eye liner and a thick coat of mascara when I was a pre-teen? That's a joke...certainly not! So, what's changed? It seems that these thresholds of "appropriateness" have evolved to younger and younger ages. Major hair product brands and salons are putting big bucks behind campaigns to appeal to your fashion-loving tween. A recent article in the New York Times highlights (literally) the impact of marketing as a driver for salon treatments formerly reserved for post-pubescence. Does it matter?
